Where Do Our Products Come From?
We priorize products from Saskatchewan, followed by products from Canada. If we can't find a Canadian product, or if the quality is not acceptable, then we look at products from other countries. If a Fair Trade version of that product exists, that one is chosen. If not, then we try to deal with companies which have clean records with respect to human rights, environmental degradation, tax evasion, employee relations and manipulation of political processes for their corporate gain. We have some products in our store which are produced by companies owned by some bad people, but we are working to replace them, and they will be removed as soon as we have other options. I can point them out to you if you wish to avoid them.
We have approximately 81 different suppliers, with most of those being Saskatchewan producers, along with wholesalers from Vancouver, Edmonton, Vulcan, Guelph, Wisconsin, New hampshire, Nova Scotia, North Carolina, Victoria, Denman Island (BC), Petersborough, and so on.
Our produce is sourced out of British Columbia wholesalers (3) and from local producers in season. I grow some of our vegetables for summer sales at an acreage at Edgeley. For much of the year, the bulk of our produce is from BC producers. When winter sets in there, the portion of california and mexican produce increases. The ginger is from hawaii, the kiwi fruit sometimes from New Zealand, the bananas from Mexico or further south. Citrus tends to come from the southern United States. Apples are mostly from BC, though we have had apples from Chile and Argentina. We have occasionally had red peppers from israel, and once had oranges from Australia.
Our meat is all from Saskatchewan companies, thought he halibut, cod, ocean perch and sole are ocean fish and obviously came from other parts of Canada, even though our supplier is from Saskatchewan. Most of our flours, flakes and grains are from the prairies, with the fastest moving ones from saskatchewan. A lot of the beans and lentils are from Saskatchewan.
Eventually you will be able to look at this web site and click in the products section on any product, and learn where the product came from, and what is different about how it is produced organically from how it is produced via chemical agriculture. For now, you can contact us to obtain such information. Note: we do not share the names, addresses or phone numbers of our suppliers.
