Update July 19, 2006.
A lot has changed since the last update. First of all, we have now got a licensed kitchen at the store, which means we can sell many deli items we previously had to either buy from outside the store or that we simply could not get. Our menu for the deli includes hummus, tabouli, bean salad, baked beans, refried beans, potato salad, vegetarian sushi, two kinds of samozas, tempeh sandwiches, falafel sandwiches, quiche and other products which are being developed now. We have also begun making our curries and our baking in house. Our selection of fresh baking is now expanded, from 4 items to eight, with the menu now including peanut butter balls, chocolate zucchini loaves, an amazing oatmeal granola cookie, double chocolate cookies, ginger snaps, soul squares (oats, bananas, honey, raisins, corn flakes), banana chocolate chip muffins, and carrot muffins. All of the above items are made with organic ingredients and the taste is fantastic.
In addition to the kitchen we have also opened a take out booth on 13th Avenue called Eat Healthy Foods To Go. It is located at 2815 13th Avenue, a block east of the Safeways. It has all the items from the deli, plus bison burgers, polish beef smokies, veggies burgers, iced cappuccino, a fruit slurpy as well as gourmet coffees and drinks. The booth has been a big hit, and the feedback from the community has been fantastic.
In the store we have added a water refill unit. We are selling reverse osmosis filtered living water, for $1 per 5 gallon jug. Deposit ont he jugs is $10.
Outside the store we now have a little warehouse, which has allowed us to have more space fort the kitchen and will let us start a home delivery service. watch for the announcement of the beginning of this service. |

Earth Day at Eat Healthy Foods was a big success. Ten community groups had displays outside the store discussing issues of energy conservation, transportation, composting , recycling, use of hemp, protecting natural areas, concerns about pesticide use, vermicomposting (composting with worms) and use of white dutch clover as a groundcover. We gave out free Earth Day cakes and free tea to everyone who came to the event and had some really good live music outside the store. It was a very nice feeling to have so many people visiting and learning about environmental issues outside the store.
